After conferencing with the mom, I had hope that it would immediately make a difference. Are my expectations to high? Probably/maybe. This trimester is coming to close. There are still students who really do not see the problem with touching other students, or talking out of turn. YIKES! These 2nd graders are very different from last year's class.

My First Time

Yes, this is my first entry. What did you think it was going to be about? Where's your mind? We are all still in training in my class. I'm not talking about potty training. I try and use positive praise on a regular basis, but at times it seems like I'm saying the same names over and over and over again. I look for the smalest things for some. I also use a lot of team praise. I like how MAP2D utilizes teamwork soo much. In life, we're not alone, so it definitely makes sense to have people working together...not that the students are all really doing exactly what is expected without still a lot of guidance. It'll come. I know in the long run, it seems like a great program. I had a parent meeting this afternoon. It was scheduled for tomorrow morning, but she asked if we could do it today. The student has been getting in trouble on a regular basis, including 2 yellow slips and a pink one. I did get some interesting insight into the family dynamics. Oh no...I'm not looking forward to November when the mom said it may get worse because of some different people taking care of the boy, and their culture is quite different. I can only imagine. He also doesn't always try his best. We came up with a deal...he says he's going to stay focused, and not get in trouble, and I'll give him a treat at the end of the week. Sometimes I'm not sure about doing those kind of things because I think of the kids who are doing fine, and what do they get, but there needs to be change, and we've tried other things.
